I hope it was a good one. Ours here in Madrid was welcomed in with an offensive amount of people in Sol square, wearing their ridiculous festive hats, pushing us from all angles as we stared up at the clock in the centre waiting for the countdown to midnight where everyone eats 12 grapes in the last 30 seconds, with the hope that it will bring them luck for the new year. It was pretty darn crazy all around. So much so that we actually missed the countdown itself and I found myself shoving my 15 grapes (I had brought 3 extra for safies) into my mouth when I realized that it was actually 12:05. Dear oh dear. I wonder what this means for my luck this year. Good things apparently, we went boogie-ing till 7am. It was cranking!
Although I always fail myself on my new years resolutions, I usually manage to go hard for the first month or so. So here is me attempting one of my goals to be more onto my photo sorting and distributing. I shall no longer let them all stack up on my hard drive and let people continue to badger me to put them up on Facebook. Oh no, this is the year of the sorting and the publishing. I need to catch up, quick snap. So here are some from a wee while ago. Some of the few travel shots I managed to save before my hard drive failed me.
WALES
I started off my Europe adventure with fun times in Berlin. Then I went to Copenhagen for a few days. And then to Wales. And this post is dedicated to that one, the Wale.
It was an impulsive trip I suppose, it hadn't been on my agenda, but one of my friends from home, the wonderful Deakin, invited me to join he and his friend for a camping trip in the south of Wales while I was in the UK. So join I did.
It's a beautiful place. The bus trip from London to Pembrokeshire was a trip a bit like one you would take in New Zealand, the Wales part anyway. It has very similar scenery, and the destination also has the word 'shire' in it, which is becoming increasingly associated with our fine country, no thanks to the fact that we now have an actual place in New Zealand called Hobbiton or that our weather man on the national news dressed up as an elf to present the forecast. Nice.
Anyway, I had an excellent time in the Wale. We were lucky enough to have a wee bit of nice weather there too, although it was, for most of the time, bloody freezing. But then we were only in tents, on the top of a hill, and I only had one of those little traveling sleeping bags. We found massive wild mushrooms to eat, beaches and hills to explore and some damn fine fush and chups in the quaint wee town near where we'd set up camp. I was back home already. Just on the other side of the world.
Since having moved to Madrid I have furthered my education on glory that is Wales, finding myself living with a lassie hailing from the northern part of the country. She, although doesn't have an extremely strong welsh accent, speaks fluent welsh, which is quite honestly one of the most bizarre languages I have ever heard. I hear her through the wall speaking to her parents and it's all just crazy noises from her side of the wall and giggles from mine. It's a two way relationship you see, I tell her that yes we do in fact have Nandos, gravy and A league of Their Own in New Zealand, and she in turn has introduced me to many a great reality tv show, the best of which is essentially the equivalent to Geordie Shore, but set in Wales. I'm sure you've heard of 'The Valleys', but if you have not, you best be getting onto it. It is truly outrageous. All of these 'Valley kids', move from their small home towns to the 'big city life' in Cardiff, thinking that they are Beyonce or 'the hotest thing in Wales'. Ha, it's amazing. Here's a bit. Thanks for this beauty Rach.
So, some photos, of my time in Wales. And here we go, here's a song by a Welsh band for you to listen to as you scroll through the photos. My favourite line in this song is 'I'm a minga, you're a minga too, so come on minga, I want to ming with you'. It is also swell in the O.C, played when Summer takes her top off and Seth just says 'Whatever you say Summer. Yes. Yes.'
